Hey there everyone, I am new to vaping as I decided to start to quit smoking and start vaping 3 weeks ago. I walked into a near by smoke shop and the lady recommended me a what indoorsmoker calls a Blister starter kit CE4 ego T. I got that along with a vanilla nicotine 6mg. I been smoking heavy for over a year now but have always smoked on occasion on and off since the age of 14. I smoke a pack a day. Anywho so the first 2 days were exciting and it was helping me cut down my regular cig but noticed I was missing the taste of the smoke. I went back to the same smoke shop and I got me a reusable cleamizer along with broad street menthol E Juice. Now here is where everything becomes confusing for me. So a few days later a friend found out I was trying to quit smoking and start vaping and decided to give me his vaper. He had a Sigelei 30 watt mini with a Aspire Nautilus. He mentioned the tank seemed to be broken since it was leaking. So this time I decided to so to a vape shop. I ended up going to two vape shop where each place gave me different advice. The last one actually suggested me a Aspire Nautilus X with a 1.8 resist coil for my Sigelei 30Watt mini. Now the first day I was in heaven !! Like not bad at all. i was vaping around 6-7 watts. The monitors on the device was reading 1.9 ohm or resist and I don't remember the volts at the time . Now it reading at 2.00 ohm or resist and 4.0 volts and 7.5 wattage. I really can't understand how ohm or resistance mean so I don't know what I am doing. The problem is that in less then a week I been having burnt taste I always keep it no higher then 4.2 volts 8-9 watts or lower to taste for the sweetest spots. I forgot to mention I have a IMR 18650 3.7V battery 2500mah.

Is my setup safe?
Is my setup fine to use to quit smoking ?
Frankly with this burnt taste after a day of having TeleOs Pure RY4 e juice the flavor isn't the same. I have tried a few things to fix it but nothing. Pleeese Help

Thanks LallyOs

First off welcome to the forum, glad you could join us. We have alot of topics on coil resistence and what it is, you can find some info here:
http://epicecigreviews.com/eci…..beginners/

and here:

http://epicecigreviews.com/eci…..-glossary/

The Nautilus X is supposed to be a good mouth to lung vape with those 1.9 ohm coils. As far as resistence, it is normal for coils to change resistence over time, anywhere from +/- .20 ohms, so nothing to worry about there. As far as is your vape safe, with a 1.9 ohm coil at 9 watts you are not pulling any serious amps out of the battery so you are good there. I would question the 6mg nicotine level though, that seems a bit low to start out when trying to quit smoking. I would actually suggest maybe going to at least 12mg for the first month or so, just to make sure you are getting the nicotine you need. I have been vaping for almost 5 years, started off at 24mg, down to 18, down to 12mg and now vape mostly 3mg but I still do vape 12mg in the morning and when I really feel I need more nicotine. The right nicotine level is important when you first quit, you need to make sure it is giving you what you need.

As far as a burnt taste, most coils really should be changed out almost weekly. Some will last a bit longer, but if this is your only real tank and are using it alot, the coils will need to be replaced quite often. It also will depend on your ejuice, darker ejuices tend to gunk up you coils and they don't wick very well after that. Most of the time, if the coil is tasting burnt, it is time to replace the coil. You also have to becareful not to run the tank down too much, if the wicking material of the coil becomes dry and you burn the cotton inside, that taste will never go away. So change out your coil and make sure to keep you tank as full as possible.

The important thing is to not give up, vaping is an awesome way to quit smoking, but all of us have our own vaping journey to follow. Feel free to drop by and share your story as well as offer any experiences you might have along the way. If you have questions, all you have to do is ask and we will try and get you your answer.

Steve, thanks so much for your reply!! I first wanted to share that I forgot to mention that my last vape shop sold me in getting the Teleos RY4 witch is 12mg nicotine which I Loveeee cuz I love vanilla!. Now I did end up going to my local vape shop and they checked out my device and battery. They didn't find anything wrong with my setup just like you have said here. I am in the safe zone interms of what I got. One issue or at least the guy at the shop and I have notice how quickly my ohms change. One moment it's 1.9 then it changes to 2.0 with in minutes. But I am learning about my device being it was a hand me down. I have also been advice to not smoke so much in between vaping because my taste buds are dead and then I can't taste much of my flavor.

Thanks so much for you reply again! Your information has helped me a lot too.

No problem, that is what I am here for, to help share my experiences and help anyone that I can. Your set up is well with in the realms of what your batteries can handle so you don't have to worry there. I didn't want to push more nicotine on you, but you said you where a heavy smoker and I know 6mg just seems way too low to start out if you are trying to quit. It is more than just nicotine we are addicted to in cigarettes, I had really strong cravings for a couple of weeks after I quit and I was getting plenty of nicotine. So I would suggest if you are serious about quitting, that you up the nicotine a bit.

As far as the coils resistence changing, that is perfectly normal, like I said a jump +/- .2, so 1.6-2.0 ohms is expected. The resistence will change as you use it and as the coil gets older might even stay a different resistence. Those coils are disposable and are not meant to last forever, they will need to be replaced almost weekly to keep performing well and giving you good vapor and flavor. It isn't so much the coil that goes bad, it is the wicking, even people who rebuild their own coils will rewick there coils at least once a week if not more often. As the cotton gets used, it loses its ability to wick and lose flavor, that is what makes you need to change your coil so often.

Hang in there, vaping is a great way to quit smoking, a little patience and some will power and you will join the thousands of people who successfully quit smoking! I smoked for 35 years and at one point was around 2 packs plus a day and I finally did it, so that leaves hope for anyone questioning whether or not vaping can help them finally quit.

I feel so much more at ease that your giving me this info. I also want to say your not pushing anything on me I switched to 12mg nicotine way before I started having issues. The vape shop I started going to advice me the same. Can I ask, from your personal experience. Did you go cold turkey and just vapes or did you smoke in between vaping to cut down and the amount on cigarettes ? Cuz that's what I was trying to do. As of this morning I haven't had my usual cig with my coffee but it's because I ran out of cig and was to lazy to buy some which I know it's good. But how did you get off? Did you went straight into vaping and just relied just on vaping? Or did you wean your self off slowly ?

Thanks Steve !

Glad things are going good for you now, vaping can be a bit fiddly with it's coils, mods, eliquids etc and it is tough for someone new to fully understand all of this, that is where the forum comes in.
As far as me quitting smoking, I was stubborn. I knew I wanted to quit smoking but I was afraid to finally take that last step with only vaping and not smoking. So I vaped and smoked for a few years. Vaping really helped me cut back, I was smoking about a pack and a half a day before vaping. With vaping, I was able to cut back to about 3 packs a week. Finally, I just decided enough was enough and I was going to give it a shot and just not smoke anymore and only vape, I didn't think I would make it through the first day at work. To my surprise, I was able to make it through the first day and I just took it one day at a time. I still had some strong cravings even after not smoking for 3 weeks, but it was easier to just say no to smoking and vape instead. Everyone's experience is a little different, I would just say don't give up, you will be able to convince yourself that vaping is the equivalent of smoking, it just takes time.

When it comes to vaping, I don't really consider myself a hobbyist, I do what I do to keep from smoking. I do have alot of devices, quite a few tanks, rebuild my own coils, have alot of different eliquids, but that is all to keep from smoking. I still consider myself an old school vaper, I don't run out and get the latest and greatest tank, I do pick up some new things every now and then but I would not call myself a hobbyist. I know what I like and I tend to stick with what I like and what works for me to not smoke. Some items I use just to do reviews on, but most are things I use daily. So I am here if you have any questions, I think if you search the forum you can find alot of discussions we have had on many different topics but we are here to support each other in our battle with staying smoke free!
